Dr. DechammaVeterinarian / OwnerDr. Ballaranda hails from coffee grower community in Southern India. Just after graduation, being passionate about animal welfare she started working for animal shelters (SPCA Bangalore) and other animal welfare organizations. She worked in New-Delhi for an Animal shelter affiliated to RSPCA (Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) U.K., as a Veterinarian in charge for 4 years. Afterwards, she was a surgeon at a small animal referral hospital run by the Federal Government in New-Delhi for 6 years. Dr. Ballaranda completed the ECFVG program for foreign veterinarians before joining Banfield, the Pet hospitals in 2007.
She wanted a place that she could call her own and that is exactly what she got from the lovely caring family of East Detroit Animal Hospital. She believes in building a strong relationship with patients and clients by empowering clients through proper preventative care education and teamwork.
While not at work she loves to spend time with her family, and nothing comforts her more than her furry baby Rea. She likes to travel as you can guess. She says, 'I pretty much work, eat, pray, love.'

MackenzieVeterinary AssistantMackenzie has had a deep love for animals since early childhood. She joined EDAH in April 2025. Studying at Macomb Community College, she graduated from the Veterinary Technology Program. She is currently focusing on broadening her skills learned in the classroom. She has a passion for sharing her knowledge with pet parents. She loves ensuring patients stay in good health and that their owners have some relief knowing their loved ones are taken care of. She always had more than one pet in the household. Mackenzie lives with a Shih Tzu (Harry), and 3 cats: Winston (orange tabby), Luna (black longhair), and Loki (black shorthair). All of which have gotten her though some tough times. She knows how strong a relationship with a pet can be. When not at work she loves to play music (guitar, ukulele) and relax with arts and crafts.
